News surfaced today that will rock the LPGA. Lorena Ochoa, the top ranked player on the Tour, is set to retire from professional golf.
Ochoa has scheduled a press conference to go into further details on Friday.
It will be a tough pill for a tour that is down to 25 events on the 2010 schedule, with only 14 in the United States. In 1997, Ochoa took over the top spot on the LPGA rankings from arguably the best ladies golfer ever in Annika Sorenstam. That year Ochoa won eight times, including her first major title at the RICOH Women’s British Open. Ochoa may have only two major titles but, in only eight years on the LPGA, she has amassed 27 wins.
