Haas gets first PGA win at Bob Hope Classic

Bill Haas won for the first time on the PGA TOUR with a bogey-free final round 64 on the Palmer Course at PGA WEST to beat Bubba Watson, Tim Clark and Matt Kuchar by one shot at the Bob Hope Classic, hosted by Arnold Palmer. Haas is the son of Champions Tour player Jay Haas, who had won the Bob Hope Classic in 1988.

Haas made eight birdies in the final round, including two on the final two holes to pull into the lead.  He started the round two shots behind leader Watson and Alex Prugh, who finished fifth after shooting 67 on Monday.  Haas made a birdie on the second hole followed by three straight at the fourth, fifth and sixth holes, adding another on the eighth.  He made pars to the 14th, where he made another birdie to catch Kuchar.

Kuchar set the pace early with eight birdies in the first 11 holes, including four in a row from the eighth to 11th holes.  But, he managed only one more the rest of the day.  Clark made seven birdies with no bogeys to move up four spots on the leaderboard but, a par on the final hole left him tied for second and still looking for his first PGA TOUR win.  Watson, who shot 66 in the final round, finished with birdies on the 16th and 18th holes to move up into a tie for second place.

Prugh fell off the pace with six pars and a bogey through the first seven holes.  But, after a birdie on the eighth and an eagle on the 11th holes, he finished strong with three straight birdies on the final three holes to move into fifth.  Mike Weir finished in sixth place at 26-under par, four shots behind Haas.  D. J. Trahan took seventh with Kevin Na and Matt Jones tying for eighth place.  Five players tied for 10th place at 22-under par, including Ryan Moore and Vaughn Taylor.  With them were Brandt Snedeker, Chad Collins and Kevin Streelman.
