Vaughn Taylor made up three shots in the final round to finish tied for the lead with Matt Kuchar at the Turning Stone Resort Championship. Play was suspended due to darkness at Atunyote Golf Club in Verona, New York as Taylor and Kuchar remained tied through two sudden-death playoff holes. Play will resume Monday at 8:30 a.m. on the 13th hole.
Taylor shot 66 to Kuchar’s 69 in the final round. Taylor started the day par-bogey but made consecutive birdies on the fourth and fifth holes before adding another on the eighth. Taylor made a birdie on the 10th hole and an eagle on the 12th got him to five-under for the day and one shot behind Kuchar.
Kuchar bogeyed the first hole but made birdies on the second and fourth holes to get under par. A bogey on the fifth put him back to even-par for the day. Kuchar finished the front nine with birdies on the eighth and ninth holes. After a birdie on the 10th, Kuchar made a bogey at the 13th hole that seemed to opened the door for Taylor.
Taylor responded with a bogey on the 15th hole to fall a shot back but he finished with consecutive birdies on the 16th and 17th holes. Kuchar birdied the 16th before finishing with pars to tie with Taylor.
In the playoff, both Taylor and Kuchar birdied the first hole and pared the second before play was suspended.
Leif Olson and Tim Petrovic finished tied for third place, one shot out of the playoff. Olson made six birdies in the final round but late bogeys on the 11th and 15th holes kept the rookie out of the playoff. Petrovic was bogey-free in the final round, carding five birdies in the round, but, he finished with six straight pars to fall a shot short.
John Senden and Jimmy Walker finished tied for fifth place at 15-under par. Rookie Webb Simpson, Bo Van Pelt, Jeev M. Singh, Harrison Frazar and Rod Pampling tied for seventh place.
