Shin, Kim tied at Samsung World Championship

samsung-world-champ-logoJiyai Shin kept her momentum from last week’s win to shoot a 66 in the opening round of the Samsung World Championship at Torrey Pines.  Shin is tied with Song-Hee Kim at six-under par, one shot better than Lorena Ochoa and Sophie Gustafson.

Shin rebounded quickly from a bogey on the first hole with three birdies on the front nine – at the third, sixth and ninth holes.  She started the back with birdies on the 10th, 11th and 13th holes before finishing the day with a birdie on the 18th hole.

After making par on the first hole, Kim made birdie on five of the next seven holes.  She added birdies on the 15th and 18th holes, with her only bogey coming on the par-3, 16th.

Ochoa and Gustafson are tied at five-under par with opening rounds of 67.  Julie Inkster and Ai Miyazato are tied for fifth place at four-under par.  Paula Creamer shot 69 to take seventh place with Brittany Lincicome one shot behind her in eighth place.  Suzann Pettersen, Anna Nordqvist and Na Yeon Choi are tied for ninth place at one-under par.
