Tiger Woods answered his critics with a four-shot, come-from-behind victory at The Memorial Tournament. He didn’t miss a fairway in the final round and finished birdie-birdie to edge out Jim Furyk for his 67th career win and fourth at Jack Nicklaus’ event at Muirfield Village.
Furyk had his best finish of the 2009 season with Jonathan Byrd and Mark Wilson finishing in third place. Matt Bettencourt played well in the final round but had a tough two holes midway through the round. Davis Love III didn’t finish well but placed fifth for his first top 10 since the first week of the season. Kuchar finished in the top 10 for the second time this year. Geoff Ogilvy had a strange week but played well enough to have a chance to win and should be a real factor at this year’s U. S. Open.
K. J. Choi finished in 13th. Dustin Johnson, Nick Watney and Luke Donald were part of a nine player tied at two-under par. Steve Marino finished in 23rd place. Defending champion Kenny Perry shot 68 in the final round to move up to 27th place.
Camilo Villegas and Kevin Na tied for 34th place at one-over par. Charley Hoffman, D. J. Trahan and rookie Webb Simpson tied for 48th place. Ian Poulter placed 53rd as Zach Johnson took 58th. Paul Casey had a rough weekend with rounds of 75 and 78 to finish tied for 63rd.
