Paul Goydos shot 63 in the third round to hold a one shot lead over Kenny Perry at the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.
Goydos started out strong with a birdie on the second hole and added two more at the seventh and ninth holes, while carding one bogey at the eighth. He made a birdie on the 11th hole before stringing together four straight, from the 13th to 16th holes, to overtake the top spot on the leaderboard from Perry.
Perry, who has led since an opening round 61, shot 66 in the third round. After a bogey on the second hole, he made five birdies over the next 10 holes. Perry recovered from a bogey at the 14th hole with a birdie on the 15th before fininshing out with pars.
David Toms is in third place at 14-under par, two shots behind Goydos. Toms shot 66 in the third round, following opening rounds of 65. Casey Wittenberg shot his second straight 65 to tie John Merrick for fourth place. Ben Curtis, Tag Ridings and Bo Van Pelt are tied for sixth place at 12-under par. Hunter Mahan, the 2007 Travelers Championship winner, was the biggest mover of the day, climbing up from 48th place to ninth with a round of 63. Mahan is tied with Ryan Moore and Anthony Kim at 11-under par, five shots back.
