Yani Tseng wins the final LPGA Corning Classic after Soo-Yun Kang missed a four-foot par putt in the final hole that would have forced a playoff.
Tseng started the day in third place, one shot behind co-leaders Kang and Mika Miyazato. Tseng made her only bogey on the first hole but recovered quickly with an eagle on the second hole and a birdie on the third, putting her at 18-under par and tied for the lead. Kang birdied the second hole and took the lead at 19-under par with a birdie on the fifth hole. Miyazato, who dropped out of the lead with a bogey on the first hole, got back to 18-under par with birdies on the seventh and ninth holes. Kang extended her lead over Tseng and Miyazato to two shots with a birdie on the ninth hole but gave one back with a bogey on the 10th hole. Kang, Tseng and Miyazato all birdied the 12th hole.
Meanwhile, Paula Creamer entered the mix. With four birdies through 14 holes, Creamer moved into contention with birdies at the 16th, 17th and 18th holes to finish the tournament at 20-under par. Miyazato would par out from the 13th hole to finish in fourth place at 19-under par.
Tseng finished with birdies on the 16th and 17th holes to get to 21-under par. She waited as Kang, who birdied the 16th hole, came down the final hole needing a par to finish tied with Tseng. She missed the four-footer for par and finished tied for second place with Creamer at 20-under par.
Ai Miyazato, Song-Hee Kim, Sandra Gal and rookie Vicky Hurst tied for fifth place at 17-under par. Angela Stanford, Jimin Jeong, Karine Icher, Mikaela Parmlid and Seon Hwa Lee tied for ninth place at 16-under par, five shots behind Tseng.
