Jerry Kelly won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans for his first PGA TOUR victory since 2002. The win puts Kelly at 78th on the Official World Golf Rankings, up 63 spots.
Kelly has played in 10 events this year, making seven cuts. Three of those events resulted in top 10 finishes, including the Puerto Rico Open (t-9) and the Mayakoba Golf Classic (t-6). Another solid finish came at the Sony Open, where Kelly finished tied of 23rd place.
Kelly finished the 2008 season with four top 10 finishes in 15 events. He was runner-up twice – at the Memorial Tournament and the Puerto Rico Open. Kelly also finished in third place at the Sony Open. His other top 10 of the 2008 season came at the Wyndham Championship, where Kelly finished tied for ninth place.
Kelly’s breakout season came in 2002, where he notched two victories and 14 top 25 finishes in 21 events. He started off the season with a win at the Sony Open. He followed that with a fifth place finish at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. After missing the cut at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, Kelly tied for eighth place at the Buick Open. In March, Kelly finished well at Bay Hill (t-11) and THE PLAYERS Championship (t-11). At the end of May, Kelly got back into the top 10 at the Memorial Tournament (t-9) and the Buick Classic (t-7). He got his second win of the season at the Advil Western Open. Kelly finished out the season with top finishes at the World Golf Championship-American Express Championship (t-4) and THE TOUR Championship (t-4).
