What a finish at the LPGA TOUR’s first major! Brittany Lincicome eagles the final hole to leap frog Kristy McPherson and Cristie Kerr and win the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
It was a three player race all day as McPherson and Kerr traded the top spot until Kerr’s double-bogey on the 15th hole. Lincicome used her power off the tee, precision from 210 yards out and touch to win her first major tournament.
Suzann Pettersen played well again at Mission Hills finishing in fifth place. Karrie Webb and Katherine Hull continued their solid starts to 2009 with top 10 finishes.
Lorena Ochoa was not a factor in her title defense but did climb the leaderboard Sunday to finish tied for 12th with Angela Stanford and Helen Alfredsson. Paula Creamer was a shot behind them with world number two Yani Tseng and Brittany Lang. Rookie Jiyai Shin couldn’t recover from a second round 76 but did finish tied for 21st.
Morgan Pressel tied for 40th place and Natalie Gulbis finished at 46th. In her first major championship as a TOUR member, Michelle Wie did not fare well, shooting 81 in the second and third rounds to tie for 67th place.
