Saturday at a major is really where players separate themselves. Kristy McPherson and Christina Kim find themselves in a new situation…leading a major heading into the weekend. How will they fair?
Kim is a true veteran and it would be nice to see her stay on top heading into the final round. McPherson is a third year pro who is looking for her first LPGA win…hey Morgan Pressel got her first here a couple of years ago so…
Hot on their heels are LPGA stars Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer and Angela Stanford. Also within striking distance are international stars Helen Alfredsson, Suzann Pettersen and Katherine Hull. In-Kyung Kim continues the momentum from last week and is five shots back. World number two – Yani Tseng – is at even-par after a 75 in the second round. Surely, she will bounce back and make a run. Keep an eye on Karrie Webb, who at one-over par is not out of it yet.
What about 14-year-old Alexis Thompson, who is playing on a sponsor’s exemption this week. Thompson is at even-par through two rounds and is tied for 15th place.
Dark horse…Lorena Ochoa. I don’t know how the world’s best player could be considered a dark horse but at two-over par Ochoa is eight shots back of the leaders. She may lurk in the shadows until Sunday.
