Pat Perez secured his first PGA TOUR win at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, ending an eight year wait and getting the 2009 campaign off to a terrific start.
For the past two years, Perez has played consistent golf but only finished in the top three once at the 2007 AT&T National. He has finished in the top 10 consistently with six in both years. Last season, Perez made more cuts (21 of 27) than he did in 2007 (16 of 27).
Highlights from the 2008 season came for Perez at the Sony Open, where he finished in fourth place in his first event of the year. His other top finishes came at the Shell Houston Open (tie-8th), the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial (6th), the Valero Texas Open (tie-8th) and in the Frys.com Open (tie-7th).
In 2007, Perez finished in the top 10 at the Sony Open (tie-10th), Nissan Open (8th), the Crowne Plaza Invitational (4th), the AT&T National (tie-3rd) and at the Fry’s Electronics Open (tie-6th).
Perez was a rookie on the PGA TOUR in 2002 by way of his medalist finish at the PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament. In his first season, he qualified for the 2003 Masters Tournament after finishing the year 40th on the season-ending money list. He didn’t win an event but finished the season with six top 10s, including two second place finishes.
The win at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic moved Perez up to 59th on the Official World Golf Rankings.
