Vegas is great for the Fall Series
The Fall Series and Vegas are very much alike. Every shot is a gamble and the players are rolling putts to improve their number on the money list to earn their 2009 Tour cards.
This week’s tournament – Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open – has brought out some big names for the Fall Series event. Though the tournament name may leave you gasping for air, the players will keep you tuned in as some big names make an appearance this week.
On the leaderboard are Ryder Cup stars Hunter Mahan and Paul Azinger, both making their first post-Ryder Cup tournament appearances. They are joined by former UNLV star Chad Campbell, Davis Love III, Fred Couples and the ultimate Vegas headliner John Daly.
The Fall Series in some aspects makes for better golf than some of the tournaments in the early months of the year. The only thing working against decent ratings is football. The third round goes up against college games and the final round faces the NFL…a tough task on both fronts. I enjoy the Fall Series events because there is not a lot of hoopla and stars, just grinders playing golf for the love and paycheck. Also, you get to see some of the young talent on Tour often overshadowed by the big names at summer events.
