Camilo Villegas grabbed his first PGA Tour victory at the BMW Championship, the third leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs. He finished off the wire-to-wire victory at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Mo with a two-under, 68, for a two shot advantage over Dudley Hart.
Villegas didn’t make the win an easy one as bogeys on the fifth and sixth holes left him a shot behind Jim Furyk. A birdie on eight and a very clutch par save on the 12th hole gave Villegas some momentum. Two birdies on the 13th and 14th holes allows Villgas to cruise in with pars.
Dudley Hart tried to make a run at the leader with a round of 65 and finished off his bogey-free day with birdies on the 17th and 18th holes. It is Hart’s best finish on Tour. Jim Furyk tied for third with Anthony Kim three shots back. Tied for fifth at 11-under par was K. J. Choi, D. J. Trahan and Stephen Ames. Hunter Mahan and Tim Clark tied for eighth as Fredrik Jacobson, Steve Stricker and Aaron Baddeley round out the top 10.
Vijay Singh finished tied for 44th with a final round 69. He just has to finish THE TOUR Championship next week to win the championship and the $10 million bonus. Villegas jumped up to second in the points race with the win pushing Sergio Garcia to third. Garcia finished the BMW Championship in 20th place.
