MacKenzie wins Viking Classic in playoff

Will MacKenzie rebounded from a triple-bogey on the final hole of the third round to shoot 68 on Sunday to win the Viking Classic at Annandale Golf Club in Mississippi in a playoff over Marc Turnesa and Brian Gay.

MacKenzie joined Turnesa and Gay in a sudden death playoff after making birdie on the final hole.  The three players played a sudden death playoff on the 18th hole.   Gay was knocked out of the playoff after making par on the first hole as MacKenzie and Turnesa made birdies on the par-5.  Playing the 18th again, MacKenzie knocked his second shot on the green and two putted from 63 feet for a birdie.  MacKenzie won when Turnesa missed his 18-footer for birdie.

Turnesa led the tournament from the opening round but fell back into a tie with Gay after making double-bogey on the 17th hole.  MacKenzie made three birdies over the last four holes to move into a tie for the lead, finishing a six-shot comeback.

His second PGA Tour victory puts MacKenzie at 97th place on the money list.  For Turnesa, it is his best finish of the season and moves him up to 130th on the money list.  The top 125 players on the season-ending money list earn their Tour cards for the next season.
