Lorena Ochoa readies herself to defend another title at the Safeway Classic, presented by Pepsi.  The tournament is held at the Colombia Edgewater Country Club in Portland, Oregon. 

The tournament features top-level talent as nine of the top 10 ranked golfers are in the field this week.  Ochoa will face challenges from top players Annika Sorenstam, Paula Creamer and Suzann Pettersen while fending off rookies Yani Tseng and Louise Friberg. 

Columbia Edgewater is a par-72, 6,397 yard course that is ranked as one of the best couses in the Oregon/Washington Northwest region.  Players are tested by this unique, challenging course designed by Vernon “Mac” Macon.

This year’s talented field features nine of the top-10 players and 19 of the top-25 in the current Rolex Rankings. Along with the defending champion and top-ranked Ochoa, Sorenstam, Yani Tseng, Suzann Pettersen and Paula Creamer round out the top five, respectively. The competition will also host six former winners of the Safeway Classic Presented by Pepsi, including Ochoa (2007), Pat Hurst (2006), Soo-Yun Kang (2005), Hee-Won Han (2004), Sorenstam (2002, 2003) and Christa Johnson (1997). With a successful title defense this week, Ochoa would become the first back-to-back winner of the event since Sorenstam pulled off the repeat in 2002 and 2003.
