Tournament Preview: PGA Championship

Tiger Woods will not be at Oakland Hills to defend his PGA Championship title leaving the door open for a number of players to take hold of the last major championship trophy.

Vijay Singh has the momentum but he needs to be more steady with the short putts than he was last week in winning the World Golf Championship=Bridgestone Invitational.  Phil Mickelson is the top ranked player in the field and is coming off a good week but faltered down the stretch to the tune of three bogeys over the final four holes to lose the trophy.

Some majors bring surprises and this one may just do that with the course not favoring any particular style of play.  The field is open and it is just a matter of who wants to take it.

Oakland Hills is the host to this year’s PGA Championship.  The South Course opened in 1918 and has a storied list of major championships under its belt.  Designed by Donald Ross is among the top courses in the United States.  Its storied history includes six U. S. Open Championships, three PGA Championships, two U. S. Senior Open Championships, a U. S. Amateur and the 2004 Ryder Cup.
