Spotlight: Carl Pettersson

Carl Pettersson won the Wyndham Championship for his first trophy in two years.  The host venue Sedgefield Country Club is somewhat a home away from home as Pettersson serves on the board of directors.

Pettersson is having a good 2008 season and heads into the FedEx Cup playoffs in 13thplace, a jump up 45 spots thanks to the win.  He finished the regular season making 18 of 22 cut, with 11 top 25s.  His best finishes before last week for the season was a fourth place at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship.  He also placed in the top 10 at the U. S. Open, finishing sixth, the Arnold Palmer Invitational (8th) and at the Memorial Tournament (10th). 

Born in Sweden, Carl Pettersson moved to Greensboro, North Carolina for the last two years of high school after his father was transferred.  He went to North Carolina State University, where he won four tournaments. 

He turned professional in 2000 and played on the European Tour.  In 2001, Pettersson finished tied for seventh in his first event at the Carlsberg Malaysian Open and took second place at the Open de Argentina, his sixth start.  The next season, he won the Algarve Open de Portugal in a playoff.  Pettersson finished that season with a 21st place finish at the 2002 PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament.  He joined the PGA Tour in 2003.

Pettersson jumps up 22 spots in the Official World Golf Rankings to 49th place.
