Look out: Harrington, Garcia catching Mickelson
Aug 11th, 2008 | By TeeOff | Category: Golf, OpinionWith Padraig Harrington’s win at the PGA Championship, he is only 2.02 points behind Phil Mickelson for the number two spot on the Official World Golf Rankings. Harrington is almost a lock for player of the year honors, barring a Sergio Garcia FedEx Cup championship.
Outside of Woods, players have become tightly grouped together that there has been a lot of movement over the last few weeks. Vijay Singh jumped from outside the top 10 to fourth after his win at the World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational. Mickelson was thought of as untouchable early in the season but the field has caught up.
The number two spot may be up for grabs if either Harrington or Garcia have strong a FedEx Cup showing. Here is how the ranking fall as of Monday:
- Tiger Woods 18.36
- Phil Mickelson 9.87
- Padraig Harrington 7.85
- Sergio Garcia 6.13
- Vijay Singh 5.63
- Henrik Stenson 5.31
- Ernie Els 5.24
- Stewart Cink 5.13
- Geoff Ogilvy 5.12
- Steve Stricker 5.07
- Adam Scott 5.01
