Cristie Kerr shot a final round 65 to tie Helen Alfredsson and Sophie Gustafson for the lead after the final round of the Safeway Classic presented by Pepsi.  The three dueled in a playoff where Kerr made birdie to win on the first playoff hole.

It is Kerr’s first win of the season, and first since the 2007 U. S. Women’s Open.  After making a birdie on the final hole, Kerr held a one shot lead as both Gustafson and Alfredsson made bogey on the 17th hole.  The two players made birdies on 18 to force the playoff.

Defending champion Lorena Ochoa, Annika Sorenstam and Paula Creamer tied for sixth at seven-under par for the tournament.
