K. J. Choi shot 67 in the second round to take a one-shot lead over Greg Norman after two rounds of the British Open at The Royal Birkdale Golf Club.
Choi leads an interesting leaderboard that consists of former Open champions and a first-timer. Norman, David Duval and Padraig Harrington, the defending champion, are former champions of the storied major championship and are in the top five after two rounds. Camilo Villegas is playing in his first British Open and holds thirds place, two shots back of Choi.
Choi started the day with a bogey but didn’t make another in the round. He made birdies on the third, 13th before finishing with birdies on the 17th and 18th holes. Norman made three birdies, all on the front nine, but also made a double-bogey on the sixth and a bogey on the 17th hole for a round of even-par, 70.
Villegas shot 65 to jump up 71 spots on the leaderboard. He started the day with back-to-back bogeys but managed to finish the front at one-under with birdies on the fourth, fifthand ninth holes. After a bogey on the 13th hole, Villegas finished the round with five straight birdies.
Duval and Harrington are part of a seven player tie for fourth place. Also in that group are Jim Furyk, Alexander Noren and the three first round leaders - Rocco Mediate, Graeme McDowell and Robert Allenby.
