Woods makes the 108th U. S. Open unforgettable
Jun 17th, 2008 | By TeeOff | Category: Golf, OpinionThe U. S. Open was great…probably one of the most captivating majors in the last few years. To start the tournament, you see the top 12 players in the world playing together with most playing pretty good. Players were loving the course, which doesn’t happen too often at the U. S. Open. Then, the weekend separated the field leaving only a handful of golfers with a shot at the title.
Rocco Mediate played the best golf of his career and excited almost anyone who has a passing interest in golf. The Open usually has an underdog that the fans can cheer on and Rocco was that guy this year. But, he gave a little more than most by taking the best player in the world to a playoff and then some. Most runner-ups don’t get remembered but Mediate will never be forgotten.
Tiger Woods grimaced most of the week as he fought through the pain of his surgically repaired knee. He managed to get himself in the lead after a great eagle putt to end the third round. Going into Sunday, Woods never loses but it didn’t look that way until the last putt.
All in all, Woods’ 14th career major title was unforgettable.
