Spotlight: Yani Tseng
Jun 9th, 2008 | By TeeOff | Category: Golf, Player SpotlightWith her sudden death playoff victory, rookie Yani Tseng captures her first major championship at the McDonald’s LPGA Championship and her first LPGA victory.
Tseng turned pro in 2007, playing on the Asian Golf Tour and the CN Canadian Women’s Tour. On the Asian Tour, she won the DLF Women’s Indian Open. She also won the CN Canadian Women’s Tour at Vancouver Golf Club, the Tour’s season opening event.
Tseng earned exempt status for the 2008 LPGA season with a sixth place finish at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament.
She had a very successful amateur career, including wins over Michelle Wie and Morgan Pressel. She had 15 International victories and added four in the United States. She beat Wie in the 2004 USGA Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship. At the 2005 North & South Women’s Amateur Championship, she beat Pressel for the title.
Tseng is currently ranked 25th on the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.
