Jee Young Lee was as hot as the weather firing a seven-under, 65, to take a one shot lead heading into the final round of the McDonald’s LPGA Classic, presented by Coca-Cola. She leads Maria Hjorth, who also shot 65, and has a two-shot edge over Lorena Ochoa and Annika Sorenstam.
Lee only had one slip in the third round, a double-bogey on the par-4 fifth hole. She carded five birdies on the front nine, including three over the last four holes. She finished the day with an eagle on the par-5 15th hole and two birdies over the last three holes. Hjorth was mistake free on the day and finished the front nine with four straight birdies, capping off a 31 on the side. She dropped two birdies on the back to climb into contention.
Ochoa had an unexpected slip in the third round as she struggled to shoot an even-par, 72. She started the day with a bogey and added another on the seventh hole, before her first birdie on the eighth. To start the back nine, Ochoa scored birdie-bogey-birdie and added another birdie on the 17th hole. Sorenstam started quick with two birdies in the first three holes and was bogey-free in the round, adding birdies on the sixth and 15th holes, for a 68.
With the two best players in the world two shots back, Lee will feel some pressure. Also in the mix, rookie Yani Tseng, Brittany Lang, Laura Diaz and Lindsey Wright who are all tied for fifth place at eight-under for the tournament.
