Player Spotlight: Boo Weekley

Playing in his second full year on the PGA Tour, Boo Weekley has made noise both with his sticks and his words. He is one of the most colorful players on Tour, often chatting up fans mid-round. Weekley won the Verizon Heritage for the second straight year and his second win on Tour.

The 2008 season included a couple of firsts for Weekley. He played in his first World Golf Championship at the Accenture Match Play Championship, where he finished tied for ninth. He also played his first Masters Tournament, finishing tied for 20th, along with Milton, Florida high school alums Heath Slocum and Bubba Watson. Weekley and Slocum were high school golf teammates and Watson was a few years behind them.

His record this year in 12 events is pretty good with eight top 25s, including four top 10s and last week’s win. He has only missed two cuts (Sony Open, PODS Championship) and is currently seventh in the FedEx Cup standings.

Last season, Weekley had the win at the Verizon Heritage and finished the year with nine top 25s, with five top 10s. He played in 29 events and made 20 cuts. His best finishes after the win were a second place after losing in a playoff at the Honda Classic and a third place at the Viking Classic. Weekley played in his first major tournament in 2007 at the U. S. Open Championship, finishing tied for 26th. He played in the British Open (tie for 35th) and the PGA Championship (tie for ninth). He capped off the season with a second place finish at the OMEGA Mission Hills World Cup, playing with friend Slocum.

The win at the Verizon Heritage jumped Weekley up to 23rd in the Official World Golf Rankings.
