Tip of the week: Buried lie in bunker
Feb 11th, 2008 | By TeeOff | Category: Golf, TipsAt the end of the Pebble Beach Pro-am, Vijay Singh had a bunker shot with a buried lie, where half of the ball was buried in the sand. Obviously, he played it perfectly but how do you copy that?
Simple. Leave the club in the sand.
The lie is know as either a “fried egg” or “pancake.” The only way to escape what looks like the impossible shot is to drive the club into the sand, allowing the sand to push the ball out and onto the green.
Here is how to attack the shot. Set up like you would any other sand shot…open stance and club face pointed towards the target. Bring the club back on a steep angle and drive the club into the sand about two inches behind the ball. Eliminate the follow through, leaving the club in the sand.
Do not try to pick the ball.
